British and Hessian Revolutionary War collection, 1773-1782.

Collection of documents issued by the British Army in North America, 1773-1782, accompanied by "Notes and memoranda respecting the Hessians in America," collected by William Hall. The British Army documents were issued in Virginia, East Florida (many in St. Augustine), New York City, Montreal, and elsewhere. There are also some American documents listing British prisoners of war, and a draft of a letter by an unnamed British soldier describing the Battle of Long Island. The British Army documents include receipts, returns of supplies, accounts, and other miscellaneous documents. The documents issued in East Florida include information about the expenses for prisoners of war, and for refugees from Georgia and South Carolina. Other Florida documents record payments to the Seminole Indians. A number of documents pertain to the schooner Mercury.
